Chapter 14
We landed in JFK International Airport on July second, giving us plenty of time to settle in before Independence Day. George picked us up from the airport to drive us to the family beach house¸ which Alex informed me was about an hour and half long drive from the airport.
George looked a lot happier than the last time I had seen him. Not that he was unhappy before, but he seemed to have an extra hop in his step. I wondered if Maria had anything to do with it.
“Good to see you again, Miss Morgan,” he greeted.
“Likewise, George,” I smiled.
The drive was very comfortable on the way to the Hamptons. The weather was beautiful, clear blue sky, and not a cloud in sight. The beautiful estates caught my attention along the way. The manicured lawns, huge homes, and green trees surrounded by flowers that continued to bloom from the spring drew me in. Each home was bigger and more beautiful than the previous one and each came with its own character and charm.
George slowed down in front of an enormous iron gate with the letter “B” crafted in the middle. He inserted a number combination on the keypad and the gates began to open slowly. A smooth paved road led us to a large white home with beautiful french windows, a black tile roof, and one of the most beautiful circular driveways I had ever seen. He pulled up in front of the home and parked under a very fancy carport.
George opened the door for me and helped me out. “Here we are. Welcome to the Blake’s beach home,” he smiled.
“Beach home or beach mansion?” I looked at Alex.
He shrugged, “It’s a house on the beach, so I call it a beach house.”
“Ooookay,” I replied.
“Come. I will give you a tour of our vacation hangout for the week,” he took my hand and opened the front door, while George brought in our suitcases.
As the front doors opened, I was taken back by the charm of the home. Like I said, it wasn’t just a home – it was an estate – a mansion. God only knew how many square feet it was.
The floors were covered with dark espresso wood, the walls a pure and clean white, and the furniture looked as though it was an Ethan Allen showroom. A double staircase also included espresso wood floors. A beautiful round glass table with a large vase and fresh flowers made up the center of the foyer. The ceilings were vaulted so high that it made the space look gigantic.
The tour seemed endless. There were countless rooms, countless bathrooms, and the kitchen was probably bigger than my entire condominium. The master bedroom - or I should say one of the master bedrooms - had the largest balcony overlooking the ocean. The top of the balcony roof was an actual bell shape, adding so much more character and charm from the outside of the home.
The backyard included a large covered patio are with an outdoor dining space.
